Position Overview
The Cafe Operations Trainer and Co-trainer will be responsible for leading and implementing a comprehensive three-week training program for 27-30 women from a village Self-Help Group (SHG) in Himachal Pradesh. The program's goal is to equip these women with the necessary skills to manage and operate the kitchen and cafe at the designated centre. The trainer will use a practical, hands-on approach to teach a wide range of topics, from basic hygiene to cafe management. The successful candidate will foster an inclusive and empowering learning environment, helping to build a skilled and motivated team.
Key Responsibilities
Training Delivery and Curriculum Implementation:
- Conduct the three-week training program based on the provided framework, which is structured into three main focus areas: Foundation, Cafe Operations & Bulk Cooking, and Management, Specialization, & Entrepreneurial Skills.
- Lead practical sessions on core topics such as personal and kitchen hygiene, safe food handling, basic knife skills, and cooking techniques for local cuisine.
- Teach bulk cooking methods for commercial establishments and train participants on inventory and stock management.
- Instruct on cafe service, customer communication, and beverage preparation, including basic barista skills.
- Provide guidance on financial basics, such as recording sales, pricing, and managing supplies.
Mentorship and Skill Development:
- Serve as a mentor, offering continuous feedback and support to trainees as they progress through the curriculum.
- Encourage teamwork and communication, recognizing that many participants are seeking to work with other women in their village.
- Help participants develop soft skills like confidence, reliability, and customer service, which are key components of the final probation assessment.
- Identify potential leaders and specialists, such as a Barista or Cafe Lead, and provide them with focused training.
Assessment and Reporting:
- Assess trainees through a combination of practical demonstrations, quizzes, and observation checklists.
- Prepare trainees for a final comprehensive assessment where they will manage a full cafe cycle.
- Provide regular reports on trainee progress and performance to the project coordinator.
Qualifications
- Experience: Experience as a trainer or educator in the culinary or hospitality sector. Prior experience working with community-based groups or in a similar cultural context is highly desirable.
- Knowledge: Expertise in a wide range of cooking techniques, including local Himachali cuisine. In-depth knowledge of food safety, hygiene protocols, and cafe operations is mandatory.
- Skills:
- Exceptional teaching and communication skills: Ability to explain complex topics clearly and engage a diverse group of learners with varying levels of literacy and experience.
- Adaptability and patience: The trainer must be able to adapt their teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and address challenges like flexible hours due to seasonal family duties (e.g., grass cutting and harvest season).
